Genre Specific Blog: TreeHugger

The blog, TreeHugger, is a genre specific blog about the environment and environmentalism in general.

This chose this blog because it's not only genre specific about a very important topic in the world today, but it also is a very professional looking blog. The blog is very full of content. The top of the main page offers a section for easy navigation, breaking down subtopics into the three umbrella groups: Get Informed, Interact, and Take Action. Other useful navigation tools include the sidebar topics; they include information and links about how to "go green," the latest stories from other popular environmental websites, surveys, TreeHugger interviews, other popular environmental blogs, popular TreeHugger searches, and many other relevant topics. The majority of the posts in the blog includes photographs and is visually pleasing.

Something I found distracting about the blog was the large amount of advertising. Because of the blog's success in the environmental genre, it offers a great deal of advertising space. While I understand this is how the blog makes money, the amount and placement of the advertising can be distracting and make the blog feel crowded and busy, making it less aesthetically pleasing. My recommendation for this blog is to have a bit more whitespace for the reader; it borders on too much content for the main page.
